Day at the Zoo

One of my most favourite places in Sydney
If my photography skills were up to scratch, this owl would be in focus!
They must have the best views.
Two of my favourite little people.

We spent Anzac Day at the zoo. It was kind of a last minute thing and I'm glad we went. My sister realised that her kids needed a bit of reality check when she asked my older nephew what animals he wanted to see and he said "elephants, giraffes, and T-Rex".

Finally Lisette!

I finally finished the Lisette Passport dress as part of Curlypop's sewalong. The sewalong was for the Continental dress but I already had the pattern for the passport dress and this one can't be that hard right? Well not quite. The passport dress had this weird cross over dart on the front, binding and a zip! That's a lot of new skills in the one outfit.

I finished the actual dress probably about 2 weeks ago now and it sat staring at me in the living room until I had time to just pick it up and do up the hem. Then it took me another 2 weeks to get a photo of it as daylight saving ended I was just plain tired after work.

Taking a photo of yourself is actually kind of hard.

The bedroom, only place with a full length mirror.
So the indoor photo turned out pretty crappy so I tried to take another one outside with the timer function on the camera.

You forget to smile properly when taking a photo of yourself!

Pattern: Lisette Passport dress (Simplicity 2209)
Fabric: Lisette Sateen
Size: I made the size 14 pattern but adjusted for the SIZE 18 WAIST (I supposedly have)

I can highly recommend the Lisette patterns for the beginner sewer. In fact, I've already made another top using another Lisette pattern which I will blog about (as soon as I can get better at taking photos of myself!).

The armholes in this dress are a bit wide and so if I lift my arm, you can see that it doesn't fit that great but I think it's because I could probably have gone with the size 14 without modifying.

My biggest shock when I first started making the dress, was that when I measured myself, the pattern was telling me that I had a size 18 waist. Like seriously?? All those early morning runs, interspersed by Jillian Michael's 30 day shred AND my swimming every weekend were doing nothing except that I have a SIZE 18 WAIST??

Anyway, once the shock was over, I'm pretty happy with the results even though the arm holes are a bit weird. I've already bought more fabric to make this again but I think I'll just go size 14 all the way.

Happy Easter

Easter this year, like most years is spent in Goulburn. My parents come to Sydney often but I don't really go down to their place as often as I used to. I guess now that we have our own house, there are so many things we need to get done and the weekends go by so quickly. It was nice to mosey around the farm and catch up with my parents, even though at times, things get a bit tense. This is my weekend so far in pictures.

Wild flowers my sisters planted in front of the house. It was also the first time I've been back to Goulburn since one of my parent's dog died. Mei Mei was the runt in the litter and she was always a bit strange. My dad had a soft spot for her and was devastated when she didn't survive surgery.

Old bird bath that we've added as a "water feature"
Edible nasturtiums
The BFG helping around the farm. Totally rocking the plaid shirt!
Nephew on a vintage Cyclone at the markets

 Double trouble on the Cyclone
The tyres on my car were feeling a bit dodgy and I drove 100km with pissed off holiday drivers behind me all the way to Goulburn. My dad took me to his mechanic to get them checked out and it turns out that back wheels were stuffed and I needed new ones. The garage which my Dad goes to offers full driveway service, not something you see in Sydney very often!

View from the house
We're back home doing "house things" before having to go back to work. I'm going to work on my very neglected vegetable patch tomorrow and the BFG said that we can get a couple more trees (there, it's in print - so it has to be true).

A year ago today

location 131.jpg

A year ago today, I married my best friend. Actually I didn't. I married the man I love and wanted to marry. (I HATE it when people say "I married my best friend" in their wedding speeches. My best friend is the person I go to when things with the man I love get a bit spiky and I pour my heart out to them.)

Can't believe it's already been 1 year of married life and 1 year of being in our house. Happy anniversary BFG!
